1973 Pepsi Looney Tunes Glasses
PLEASE SEE THE NEW UPDATED 1970'S PRICE GUIDE/LIST
I have written the most viewed guide on Ebay on 1973 Pepsi Glasses!
**Note: The above listed pictures are from Ebay listings**
There are 18 Glasses in the 1973 Pepsi Collector's Set:
The set includes:
Bugs Bunny, Sylvester, Tweety, Pepe Le Pew, Cool Cat, Henery Hawk, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck, Beaky Buzzard, Wile E. Coyote, Slow Poke Rodriguez, Road Runner, Speedy Gonzalez, Porky Pig, Petunia Pig, Yosemite Sam, Tazmanian Devil, and Foghorn Leghorn
The rarest of the 1973 Glasses:
Slow Poke Rodriguez. The glass has an average sell price of $30 - $50.
The Glasses have different colored names:
The names are printed in either Black or White and can be found on the bottom of the glass.
There is not much of a difference in value based on the lettering color. The white lettered Bugs bunny and the black lettered Elmer Fudd are harder to find.
A desirable collector's set has the same colored names.
The Glasses were manufactured by two different companies:
(1) Federal Glass Comapny - which created the thin walled glass and often referred to as "Thin Walls".
(2) Brockway Glass Company or "Tumbler" is a thicker heavier glass.
My research shows that people on EBAY tend to buy the Brockway glasses - however there are far less Federal Thin Glasses (probably about 3/4 less). Federal glasses had trouble surviving overtime because they are a thinner size glass than the Brockway glasses.
While the tumbler (Brockway) are the more expensive on ebay it is really an oddity. Federal glasses are are more expensive and worth about double the brockway value.
The Glasses have different size glass (ounces held):
16 oz. Federal, 16 oz. Brockway, 16 oz. Brockway LUN (letter under name), 15 oz. Federal LUN (letter under name), and 12 oz. Federal
Pricing: The 12 oz Federal are very rare glasses and have the Logo Under the Name (LUN). The 16 oz Brockway LUN (letter under name) also brings more than the average glass. The 15 oz Federal LUN (letter under name) is another style is very hard to come by.
RARE: 16 oz. LUN (letter under name) Brockway glasses of Slow Poke Rodriguez and Beaky Buzzard were rumored not to have been made but if there was a sample glass with the Logo Under the Name it would fetch big money!
Color/Fading:
Bright Colors with no fading are ideal for Collector's. Since these glasses are from 1973 many of the glasses are in bad shape. Common problems are wear and others being in the sun for too long. But there are plenty of vibrant colored glasses still out there. IF you can find them - they are ideal.
There are some glasses that are missing some of the name and these again decrease the value but if the colors are still good - they are still highly collectible.
Very used glasses still have value but it is very low ($2 or $3 dollars).
Pricing:
The 1973 glasses vary in prices. Antique booths and flea markets sell these glasses from 10-25 dollars a glass (for the average glass/excluding the aforementioned Slow Poke Glass). These are really rare finds. The more antique shops I go to the more expensive - I am finding the glasses. It all depends on the above mentioned factors.
Rare Styles:
Two rare 1973 glasses stick out from my research:
One - the Road Runner without Beep Beep coming out of his mouth. I have seen this version of the glass but it was not for sale.
Two - the smaller nose Sylvester. Most Sylvester's have a big red nose - this RARE Sylvester has a smaller red nose (with black around the red) - I have been told it is noticeable but I have never seen this glass.
RARE Other Styles of Pepsi Glasses:
1977 released a few RARE glasses - these include - (1) Mighty Mouse (one recently sold for $500), (2) Space Mouse (I sold one recently for $175) and finally (3) Sad Sack ($30- $50).
The 1976 Multiple Character Glasses are not particularly that great for Collectors but 3 of those are much more rare and desired: (1) Slow Poke, Speedy and Sylvester Glass, (2) Pepe and his girlfriend and (3) Marvin the Martian and Bugs (all of which have been spotted on ebay recently and all fetch more than $50)
Final Note of Advice:
Recognize what you are looking at is the key thing. Make sure what you are looking at is the correct style glass and purchase with confidence. Look at the color of the name and see if they are the best of the best. If you are putting a collection together and do not care what the color the lettering is then you should buy the best looking glass. These glasses are already over 37 years old. They will eventually be gone and owned by personal collector's only. The THIN Federal Glasses in my opinion are the way to go. I have read on many sites that they are becoming more scarce because in the 70's people were more prone to break the glasses, so naturally over the years the glasses have continued to be broken. You can find the perfect glass if you take a combination of all of the above styles and make them into one single glass, just research it!
